Secure it first, then repair it properly

The first job after a storm is stopping more damage. A torn roof or broken window lets in rain for every day it stays open, and that water damage often costs more than the original hole. We tarp, board up and remove debris from the structure first.

Then we assess the full damage: roof, flashing, gutters, siding, windows, and inside the walls and ceilings where water may have travelled. GTA winters add ice damming, where ice at the roof edge pushes meltwater under the shingles and into the house.

Storm damage and your insurance

Wind, hail and falling trees are usually covered by Ontario home policies. Water that comes in through storm damage is usually covered as part of the same claim. Flooding from rising water outside is different and usually needs overland flood coverage.

If you want to upgrade while repairs are underway, for example to a better shingle across the whole roof, we price the upgrade on its own line so it never gets mixed into the claim.

Questions

Questions we hear

Should I tarp my roof myself?

Only if it's safe, and never on a wet or icy roof. Call us. Emergency tarping is part of the claim in most cases.

Does insurance cover a tree falling on my house?

Usually, yes, when a tree damages your home in a storm. Your adjuster makes the call.

What is ice damming?

Ice builds up at the roof edge and traps meltwater, which backs up under the shingles and leaks inside. It's common in GTA winters.

Can you repair only the damaged part of the roof?

Often, yes. If the shingles can't be matched, we explain the options and price each one.

Do you fix the inside too?

Yes. We dry and repair ceilings, walls and floors damaged by water that came through.

Do you bill my insurance company directly?

Yes. We bill your insurer directly for the covered work, so you only pay your deductible and any lines marked as yours on the quote.
